Big Ed's is always a great place for dinner. It's all about the ribs, which are excellent. It's been around for a long time and they are very consistent. Add to that, the Mac and cheese is excellent, the beans are very good also. It's an all you can eat rib spot and I feel that i have to mention, I lost tonight to a 5 year old who was determined to surpass me at a rib eating contest. Went back again recently and it was still just as good....

It's very big inside with plenty of tables and booths. The coolest part of the inside was that they had some New york worlds fair posters up and a Lincoln highway sign. The starter combo is the best thing we ate today. We had the ribs and brisket, and it just wasn't it. We had to add more BBQ sauce on the ribs to get something out of it. The beans and Mac n cheese weren't anything to write home about. No BBQ sauce at the table for a BBQ place. I could see this being a cool spot for football Sunday's but go with the starter combo and you will be good to go. 18% gratuity is added to your bill regardless of what you get if you dine in.

I ordered the bbq baby back ribs. That of the garbage you get from Applebee's or something like that nd Big ED gives you 3-4 times the amount of Rib plus they literally fall of the fall the bone. The bbq sauce just adds a little bit of more heavenly flavors. I l never had ribs around here that I can even say are comparable with doing this place a great injustice. Go there. I mean where else can you get amazing ribs like this plus the price is amazing for superbowl I got every one a rack nd one didn't saved for later.

Tremendous. Server was great (didn’t get his name, but an absolute legend), the garlic bread was delicious and the St. Louis ribs were the way to go.

Pretty cool place! Prices are good. I’m not a big BBQ fan but my husband said it was good.

Lorena our waitress was outstanding. She was courteous and polite. I was there over the weekend and it was quite busy however, Lorena was attentive and ensured that our food was prepared as requested. Lorena made our first time experience at big Ed's barbecue pleasurable. We plan on coming back.

If you’re craving true Southern-style barbecue in New Jersey, Big Ed’s in Matawan is the place to go! We went for the all-you-can-eat ribs, and they did not disappoint. The ribs come in a variety of flavors — the original BBQ had that classic smoky sweetness, the honey BBQ brought a perfect touch of richness with a sweet glaze, and the spicy ribs added just the right amount of heat without overpowering the flavor. Each one was fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. We also tried the brisket, which was absolutely incredible — super tender, juicy, and literally melted in our mouths. It had that slow-smoked taste that you’d expect from authentic Southern barbecue. The sides were a highlight too. The apple fritters were warm, sweet, and crispy on the outside — almost like dessert, but still the perfect complement to the meal. The homemade fries were fresh, golden, and seasoned just right. We also enjoyed the mac and cheese, cole slaw, and corn, which rounded everything out nicely. The restaurant itself has a very Southern American vibe — cozy, casual, and perfect for digging into hearty comfort food. Portions are generous, service is friendly, and the atmosphere makes you feel right at home.

Casual and fun restaurant,, has a unique "animal farm" in the large parking lot, along with other fun decorations. The restaurant is a sports bar with wooden booths and tables. I had the sweet barbecue ribs, which were meaty, moist, charbroiled, and super delicious Definitely worth a visit. 3x the cost of a large McDonald's meal but the food is 50x better. Best ribs I've had and I've had very good ribs 5 or 6x. No diet coke, only Coke One. Garlic bread is not my favorite but the cole slaw is very good.
